34 Years

A lifetime happens in 34 years

Heart beats stop beating and other start. It all goes by so fast. Life lends a strange quality to the looking of it after decades and days blur by in the fast moving car we drive through our days.

But when I slow to take in the sights of my life, I can see you on the side of the road on our way to Florida, filling the tank. I can see you at home laughing with a drink in your hand and friends at your side. I can see you, fork in hand at the dinner table with us and working in the backyard with the dog.

Then time drives on, speeds up and unbelievably, 34 years flies past, bumping. into a date, reminding me that you’ve been gone and that somehow we’ve kept going. For a lifetime. You aren’t anywhere I can get to today but I can still see you at the wheel. Driving us there.
